Exam Rules for Students – January 2025

·         Students should be arriving and seated quietly in their exam area 10-15 minutes (15-20 minutes for computer exams) prior to the start of the exam.

·         Students much present picture ID for entrance into the exam area.

·         Textbooks can be returned before each of their exams.

·         Students may not bring any electronic devices such as cell phones, smart watches, electronic dictionaries or translators into the exam room. No paper templates, post-it notes, books and/or graphic organizers are permitted.

·         No hats, backpacks, or jackets are allowed in the exam area or left outside of the gym or classrooms. Students will have access to their lockers to store their belongings.

·         Students may bring in water and food into the examinations. Food must be in a clear container/bag and students should be mindful of those around them in terms of aromas, allergies and noise (ex. No chip bags, nuts..etc).

·         Students may not enter or leave the examination room without the consent of the supervisors.

·         Students may not leave the examination room until after the first hour of the exam.

·         Students may not discuss the examination with a supervisor unless the exam booklet is incomplete or illegible. Students may not talk, whisper or exchange information or writing tools/materials with another student during the exam.

·         Students should bring an HB pencil to record answers on the machine scored answer sheets.

·         Students who bring authorized materials in the examination room are responsible for ensuring that these materials are completely free of notes or other prohibited materials/content. Authorized materials will be discussed in subject classes.

·         Any student in possession of material not allowed in an examination room will have his/her mark invalidated.

·         For diploma exams, students must not write their name or the name of their school anywhere in or on an examination booklet, except in the designated space provided on the back cover.

·         Students who arrive more than one hour after the start time of an examination will not be permitted to write the exam.

·         Students may not remove any examinations or examination materials from the exam location. This includes tear-out pages or rough draft material.

Breaches of security for Diploma Examinations

Students are expected to comply with the Diploma Examination Rules. Students who interfere with the security of examinations, falsify results, disrupt others, or commit any other act that may enable them to inaccurately represent their achievement may:

1.       be evicted from the exam room

2.       have their exam invalidated

3.       be barred from writing any other Alberta Education diploma

4.       have official transcripts withheld

5.       have official transcripts annotated
